How to engage with students effectively to get the productive work
Agenda of the session:
1. Different approach for a course
2. Hiring a platform to support the approach
3. Developing the required platform for the students and faculties (Customized based on the requirement of students)
4. Team with students will form the group to design the own platform
5. Encourage students to work
6. Follow your passion.
Different approach for a course:
1. Introductory Courses-CSE 1001 and CSE 1002
Python as first language
2. University Core
3. Problem Solving Approach
(Bottom to top approach, Let him think like the human and make them to solve the problem)
4. Introducing the problems with interesting facts.
(Providing the problem with innovative manner)
Example:
25
Light
57
Dark
5. Ask to write the own algorithm for the given problem
Make them a discussion rather than conventional approach.
6. Hiring a platform to support the approach
(i) Paperless course
(ii) Wanted to have uniform evaluation
7. Avoid wastage of time
8. Better understanding about each student.
9. Effective time management
(Faculty will update the question in the portal, he has to login and answer for that)
(Online Judge-Will check the answer based on the input like the teacher)
(Getting the feedback from the students about platform)
10. Limitation
(i)Difficult to add new features
(ii) No database access
(iii) Exposing our data
Limitations: VPROPEL
Above limitations look us to design our own software for the VIT.
1. Learning Management cum online judge
2. Developed by team of faculties – deployed using AWS- 10000 students
Structural Learning for Skill Development Course
(i) In lab Practice Session (IPS)
(Design the own problem and asking them to solve ,student will be learning themselves with guidance (10 test
(ii) Practice Assessment Test (PAT) (4 test)
(iii) Continuous Assessment Test (CAT)
(Question set by different faculties)
(iv) Final Assessment Test (FAT)
(v) Problem of the Day (POD) Not for evaluation – one post per day
Each day one tricky problem posted in the portal , it make them own pride for the students to solve , leader board to monitor for the appraisal given to solved students
One problem will be posted for a single day just to improve student knowledge not for the evaluation.
Languages used:
C, C++, Python, JAVE, ORACLE and django – support by VPROPEL
Public and private test cases
To avoid the plagiarism among the students many measures taken,
- Copy and paste is blocked in this app
- Plagiarism checker is used for software similarity check
Even doing the measures students are intelligent to break the measures: Challenges
- Prevent shutdown
- Use Framework
A V-PROPEL team of 5 UG students, 1 PG student and 1 faculty has formed this software.
Faculty compatibility with students is very much required in performing teamwork.
Team building is very much required to develop any product.
Relationship building is required- Soft and gentle reminders to students
- Commitment and binding towards students
- Respect to the students
- Appreciation of skill
- Judgment based on marks is not recommended
- Comparison among students should be avoided
Students' inputs are always good and appreciable
Acknowledge students and contribution made by them
VPROPEL options- Profile management
View test marks, programming test
Student, faculty and admin login – three types of login
Conduct test menu – MCQ test, programming test
Evaluation – Test correction – output, Code, pending answers, Expand, plagiarism check
Manage students’ option- reset password
Generate mark report

ReplyDeleteDr. Janaki Meena mam has give a deep idea about how great brains in student community could be used for projects and how to do great work by nurturing students' capabilities.
ReplyDeleteGreat work Janaki mam, I will implement in my programming lab
ReplyDeleteThank you for a wonderful session
ReplyDeleteThank you for the inspiring session and you are the live example for us and made us to realize how to make the students engaged and involved in the various research and project work. Thank you very much mam.
ReplyDeleteInspiring and thought provoking session, Thank you madam. I got motivated from your speech based on the involvement of brainy students and hard working faculty.
